I can’t wait to see a comparison between these cars. My family is looking at both of them to replace our SUV. Thoughts on which one you would have?

Ze Golf, because well-behaved-if-not-a-little-dull fast daily driver. The RS would beat me up and boot me out the drivers seat by the time I get to work.

Yeah, but I like it better of the two because it's body looks more useful for hauling larger items. Also Ford interiors are blah.

WRX, Im not in a good mood with VW right now, and I never really like the focus. plus Japanese seats and controls seem to fit me really well.

I don’t get why people are compairing these cars.

The Golf R is a luxury car the RS is a performance car. Not even the same segment. Just because they are AWD and hatch doesn’t mean they are compairable.

The Golf R to the RS is like the WRX to the STI in terms of performance capabilities.

I also vote WRX. I have afternoon pickup duties, so I put my two teenagers(!) into mine every day after school. My car is also the de-facto transportation when all four of us have to go somewhere together. The only exception is when we take long trips or have to take additional passengers.

I took the kids along when I was searching for a car. We drove the Focus ST first. It was ok for the kids, but felt cramped for me - especially the Recaro seats. We skipped the Golf, so I can’t say anything about it.

We chose the WRX (hatchback). It had more room in the back for the kids, had plenty up front for me, and the performance put a big grin on my face.

I’m a Ford fanboy and VW is too reserved for me at this juncture in my life. (I bought a red FoST instead of the white GTI I thought about test driving once)

All wheel drive turbo 4 rally machines...and in the same. Price bracket. And the golf isn’t a luxury car. That’s an insult to actual luxury cars.

Being a former MK6 Golf R owner, I want to say I’d pick the MK7 R....but I think for the price the RS is the performance steal of the decade. I’d be inclined to pick it.

Not would, will, I have money sitting in a bank dedicated this spring for a Focus RS. I was looking at the golf R but that RS just has that wow factor while the golf was just more meh. Both cars really look nice but it will be the RS that sits in my driveway.

Honestly, if you’re looking to replace a family SUV with this, I wouldn’t recommend it. They’re compact cars.
